SSRC Library

The SSRC Library allows visitors to access materials related to self-sufficiency programs, practice and research. Visitors can view common search terms, conduct a keyword search or create a custom search using any combination of the filters at the left side of this page. To conduct a keyword search, type a term or combination of terms into the search box below, select whether you want to search the exact phrase or the words in any order, and click on the blue button to the right of the search box to view relevant results.

Writing a paper? Working on a literature review? Citing research in a funding proposal? Use the SSRC Citation Assistance Tool to compile citations.

  • Conduct a search and filter parameters as desired.
  • "Check" the box next to the resources for which you would like a citation.
  • Select "Download Selected Citation" at the top of the Library Search Page.
  • Select your export style:
    • Text File.
    • RIS Format.
    • APA format.
  • Select submit and download your citations.

The SSRC Library includes resources which may be available only via journal subscription. The SSRC may be able to provide users without subscription access to a particular journal with a single use copy of the full text.  Please email the SSRC with your request.

The SSRC Library collection is constantly growing and new research is added regularly. We welcome our users to submit a library item to help us grow our collection in response to your needs.

    Teaming up with the National Association of Workforce BoardsUpSkill America developed a new tool that explains just how these organizations can help you. The tool provides an overview of what the public workforce system does and connects you to resources to start taking advantage of its services.

    This tool is the latest in a series released in the past year, thanks to a grant from Walmart to support UpSkill America’s work to equip businesses with tools to educate, train, and support frontline workers’ development to advance their careers.     A well-articulated theory of change and logic model are important tools in service delivery. These tools support programs in understanding and improving how a program functions. They provide a foundation for meaningful planning and monitoring of activities. A theory of change and logic model rely on and help support the use of data within an organization. As programs are beginning to articulate a theory of change, data can help service providers understand the needs of individuals with whom they work, their target population. Data can also help inform realistic goals for program progress. Once a theory of change and logic model are developed, data can help providers understand if activities are occurring (outputs) and whether the desired change is occurring (outcomes). Ultimately, a theory of change and logic model supports “data-driven decision-making.”

    Over the past 20 years, the Parents as Teachers model has been adapted and delivered in more than 100 Tribal communities in the U.S. During this time, more than 10,000 Native American families have been served by Parents as Teachers. More than half of the today’s federal Tribal Maternal, Infant, Early Childhood Home Visiting Tribes have chosen Parents as Teachers as their preferred home visiting model, citing the organization’s history of working with American Indian and Alaskan Native families. Presenters shared implementation and outcome findings from Los Angeles Valley College’s delivery of the Biotech Bridge Academy and described three colleges’ efforts to develop competency-based programs in information technology. Janet Javar (U.S. Department of Labor) moderated this session, and Robin Fernkas (U.S. Department of Labor) served as a discussant. Various methodologies were used across the presentations.
